Pluto took away the beautiful maiden Proserpine to his underground kingdom. Ceres, her mother,
was much surprised not to find her at home in the evening. The mother searched for her daughter
everywhere in vain. Suddenly one day Ceres picked up Proserpine's girdle by the riverside. The
nymph of the fountain told Ceres about her daughter's whereabouts. Ceres visited Jupiter and
sought his help to get back her daughter. Jupiter said that Proserpine might return to earth if she had
not eaten any food in the land of the dead. Ceres went underground to find that Proserpine had
already eaten six pomegranate seeds there. Proserpine was destined to spend six months every
year in Pluto's underworld and the remaining six months on earth with her mother.

Once a cart-driver was driving his cart through a village road. The road was muddy. Suddenly the wheels of the car sank in the mud. The cart-driver tried the cart to move forward but the car did not move. Then he prayed to God to help him. The God appeared before him in the disguise of a

Tree Plantation Drive_ (ট্রি প্ল্যানটেশন ড্রাইভ)—বৃক্ষরোপণ কর্মসূচি
Our school, Sree Vidyaniketan, at Shyampukur in Kolkata, organised the Tree Plantation Drive Programme on 5th June, the World Environment Day. It was decided that the tree plantation would be done in the school compound. The inauguration ceremony began at 10.00 am. in our school- ground. All the teachers, students of all classes, the clerks and other staff were present there. Thef amous physician of the locality, Sri Samar Ghosh, who is a great social worker also, was the ChiefG uest. Our Headmaster first delivered a speech which followed by the Chief Guest's speech.Then the tree plantation programme started. All the students and teachers were divided into six groups. Each of them planted five saplings.
In the evening cultural programme was arranged. Drama, dances, recitations and songs were performed both by the teachers and the students. I took part in the recitation and drama. It was a great joy for me.

বঙ্গানুবাদঃ আমাদের বিদ্যালয়, কলকাতার শ্যামপুকুরে অবস্থিত শ্রীবিদ্যানিকেতন, ৫ জুন বিশ্ব পরিবেশ দিবসের দিন বৃক্ষরোপণ কর্মসূচির অনুষ্ঠান করেছিল। স্থির করা হয়েছিল যে বিদ্যালয়ের প্রাঙ্গণেই বৃক্ষরোপণ করা হবে। উদ্বোধন অনুষ্ঠানবেলা দশটার সময়ে আমাদের বিদ্যালয়ের মাঠে শুরু হয়। সব শিক্ষকেরা, সমস্ত শ্রেণির ছাত্ররা, করণিকরা এবং বিদ্যালয়ের অন্যান্য কর্মচারীরা উপস্থিত হয়েছিলেন। এই অঞ্চলের বিখ্যাত চিকিৎসক, শ্রী সমর ঘোষ, যিনি একজন বড়ো সমাজসেবী ও প্রধান অতিথি ছিলেন। আমাদের প্রধান শিক্ষক প্রথমে বক্তৃতা দিলেন। তারপর বললেন প্রধান অতিথি। এরপর বৃক্ষরোপণ শুরু হল। সমস্ত ছাত্র ও শিক্ষককে ছয়টি বিভাগে ভাগ করা হল। প্রতিটি বিভাগ পাঁচটি করে চারা রোপণ করেছিল। সন্ধ্যায় সাংস্কৃতিক অনুষ্ঠানের আয়োজন করা হয়েছিল। নাটক, নৃত্য, আবৃত্তি এবং গান করেছিলেন শিক্ষকরা এবং ছাত্ররা। আমি আবৃত্তি ও নাটকে অংশগ্রহণ করেছিলাম। আমার কাছে ব্যাপারটা খুবই আনন্দের হয়েছিল।
